![]() Apps ported to macOS through Catalyst are not required to be released in the App Store, even if their counterpart on iOS is.Īdditionally, there is currently no TestFlight for macOS (one of my wishes for 2021), so if you’d like to distribute beta builds of a Catalyst app, you’ll have to do that outside the Mac App Store, and it is not that different from distributing a production app.Ī lot of what I’m presenting here will also apply for Catalyst apps - they’re Mac apps, after all - but some might require additional hacking in order to work around the fact that Apple doesn’t want you to use the entirety of AppKit directly from within a Catalyst app. With the introduction of Catalyst, we’re now seeing many new Mac apps being released, since it’s a lot easier to take an existing iPad app and turn it into a Mac app.
